About Me

I have always subscribed to Gandhi’s quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”  Throughout my career as a university professor, organizational leader, and triathlete/trainer, I strived to ensure my work helped people realize their full potential. Now as I enter my senior years, I have time to focus my decades of expertise on my greatest passion – health and wellness.

Wanting to move past the singular focus of personal training (physical fitness), I studied to become a certified Health and Wellness Coach with Wellcoaches®, the gold standard in the science of wellness coaching. I focus on whole-person wellness across physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. I am trained in an empirical, scientific framework based in coaching psychology. I meet my clients where they are physically and emotionally on this journey helping them execute their personal wellness blueprint and live a better life.

I choose to focus my practice on helping seniors because as a 65+ athlete, I see too many stereotypes and agist limitations placed on seniors, holding us back from truly living our best in our golden years. I also see so much focus on financial planning for retirement and very little focus on planning for sustained health, well-being, and happiness. When you choose to work with me, you will receive one-on-one coaching, helping you achieve your unique health and wellness dreams and aspirations so you can live your best life and feel great about yourself in the process.

Duncan Rinehart, Ph.D.

Dr. Duncan Rinehart’s professional career has spanned leadership roles including educator, trainer, mentor, consultant, and coach. Throughout his career, he has focused the lens on servant leadership, a mindset that prioritizes the growth and well-being of others by using empathy, compassion, collaboration, active listening, and authenticity. Central to his success in all his professional pursuits is his ability to use his skills and expertise to help people realize their full potential.

Education

Duncan earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Colorado, Boulder where he won the University’s highest honor – the Thomas Jefferson Award – for his work in diversity both on campus and in the community. He has served as a professor at colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad in China and Morocco.

Work Experience

His most recent work at Al Akhawayn University of Morocco includes a faculty role teaching and mentoring students as they prepare to embark upon their careers in social entrepreneurship. He also served as Director of the University’s Leadership Development Institute, bringing forward the school’s first student leadership program and first honors program. In addition to his roles with colleges and universities, he worked as a private consultant with clients including Purdue University and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and used his well-honed listening and conflict resolution skills as a mediator and arbitrator.

Iron Man Triathlete

Parallel to these decades as a leading communicator and educator, Duncan has also been a leading athlete. He has completed four full Ironman Triathlons and four half Ironman triathlons, including world championships at each level. The Ironman Triathlon is considered by many to be the most arduous one-day sporting event in the world with athletes facing a 140-mile trek that includes a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bicycle ride, and culminating in a 26.2-mile run. To succeed at this level as both an educator and an athlete simultaneously takes a rare combination of perseverance and deep, ongoing commitment to health and wellness. Decades of experience have honed his knowledge and skills of how to reach optimal performance, sustaining mental, physical, and emotional well-being, all while juggling the various challenges, such as parenthood and career, that are part and parcel of adult life. Through it all what has emerged is a compassionate, caring man with a quick wit and an easy laugh whose life purpose calls him to be of service to others.

Next Chapter - Giving Back as a Wellness Coach

Now as he moves to the next chapter of his life, he is excited to have time to focus his energies on his greatest passion - health and wellness - using his expansive skills and expertise to lead other seniors to better whole-person health and self-efficacy. Seeing the 65+ demographic as underserved in the wellness sector, and seeing too many peers retire with years of planning focused on finances but very little focus on sustained happiness and health, Duncan is uniquely positioned to open doors for seniors to a better life through the emerging science of Wellness Coaching. As a certified Health and Wellness Coach with WellCoaches®, the gold standard in wellness coaching, he is helping seniors take back their power and become free from agist limitations so they may live their best years with meaning and impact.
